Columbus woman indicted after 5-year-old drowns in pool

A Franklin County grand jury has indicted a Columbus woman with involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment after her five-year-old son drowned in a pool.

Columbus Police said officers responded to a drowning on July 3 in the 5000 block of Hibernia Dr around 7 p.m. Officers said bystanders had already taken the five-year-old child out of the pool when they arrived.

Officers attempted CPR until medics arrived and transported the boy to a hospital in critical condition.

The boy passed away a week later on July 10.

Investigators accuse the boy's mother, 24-year-old Tamisha Jones, of leaving her five-year-old son and his three-year-old brother alone and unattended for "an extended period of time."

According to police, the boys left her apartment and walked to the pool.

In October, a Franklin County grand jury indicted Jones on one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of child endangerment.

Police have recorded this drowning as the 123rd homicide in Columbus in 2020.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS (8477).
