Father gets nine years in prison in heroin overdose death of 11-month-old

COLUMBUS (WCMH)–A father of a toddler who died of a heroin overdose will spend nine years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

According to investigators, 11-month-old Dominic Dickinson died as a result of ingesting narcotics while in the care of his parents, May 13, 2015 at a residence in the 1400 block of Blaine Drive, where the family lived.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said the baby was pronounced dead at the scene and it was determined that the child had lethal doses of heroin and fentanyl in his system that caused his death.

Kyle Black and the baby’s mother, Denise Dickinson, were both charged on one count of manslaughter and one count of endangering children. The count of endangering children against Black was dismissed.

Trial for Dickinson is scheduled for July.
