A New Albany man wanted for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl in Franklin County is in custody after turning himself in, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The FBI said an arrest warrant was issued on April 21 for 46-year-old Chaminda Palliyaguru on charges of rape of a minor child under the age of 10 and three counts of gross sexual imposition of a minor child, under the age of 13.
Investigators said the rape happened on March 7.
He was taken into custody after turning himself in at the Calexico-West Port of Entry in Calexico, California on May 28, the FBI said.
According to an affidavit filed when he was first charged in Franklin County Municipal Court, he has a criminal history.
He was charged with a third-degree misdemeanor count of sexual imposition in 2017 but then pleaded guilty to a first-degree misdemeanor charge of assault.
