Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien has been named Prosecutor of the Year by the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association.
The award was presented on Thursday at the group’s annual meeting in Columbus.
The association, which represents Ohio’s 88 county prosecuting attorneys, has an awards committee that receives nominations from throughout the state, said John Murphy, the group’s executive director.
Although the award is presented annually, it honors career-long accomplishments.
O’Brien, a past president of the association, is the county’s longest-serving prosecutor. He is about to begin the final year of an unprecedented fifth term in office.
In addition to managing an office with more than 200 employees, he occasionally handles cases in the courtroom, which is somewhat unusual for a large-county prosecutor.
